Johnnie Walker’s Brand Home
In one of the most globally anticipated announcements of 2021, Diageo opened the doors to the Johnnie Walker home in Edinburgh. For those eager to appraise the liquid landscape of Scotland, the Explorers Bar is a meticulously engineered “Bothy” for the modern age, where the aesthetic and functional design was led by the Drinksology studio and delivered on behalf of BRC Imagination Arts for Johnnie Walker.
Interior Design
Commissioned by Diageo and BRC Imagination Arts to create a rooftop bar at Johnnie Walker in Edinburgh. The brief was simple - design a space like no other that embodies the unmistakable essence of Johnnie Walker
Functional Design
A beautiful bar is only as a good as the service it fulfils. With that in mind we designed the functional service infrastructure including cocktail stations, back-bar functionality and back of house provisions.
Exploring the ‘Explorers Bothy Bar’
The design represents a futuristic departure from the traditional Highland hut, housing a curated exploration of whiskies from the four corners of Scotland. These rare expressions are wrapped seamlessly around a central dispense unit dedicated to Edinburgh-exclusive drams. The architectural heartbeat of the room is a striking central spiraling feature that serves a dual symbolic purpose: it mimics the swirling of whisky while simultaneously tracing the “Angels’ Share” as it spirals upward toward the heavens. The final realisation of the bar stands as a testament to technical precision, with the finished environment almost identically mirroring the original design renders upon which the client’s ambitious expectations were set. This high-concept interior is set against a vibrant, painterly backdrop - a series of bespoke works by renowned Scottish landscape artist Scott Naismith, whose bold interpretations of the four corners of Scotland provide a soulful, colour-drenched counterpoint to the bar’s sleek, avant-garde lines.
